Proving Toddlers Aren't All That Bad 🤷♀️
Notice anything different around here, babe? 👀
The newsletter got a nice little revamp, after I realized I was sick and tired of the previous design. When Flodesk released custom fonts not too long ago (thank god 🙌), a new a refresh was in order.
My favorite part of this face lift is that now if you forward this email to a friend, they can scroll to the bottom to subscribe and read the archives with just a few clicks. (That may or may not be a sly way of saying please forward this to your friends if you think they'd enjoy it 😉)
But enough about email newsletter designs. Let's be honest, you didn't subscribe to this to read announcements about newsletter fonts. I get it.
Before I get to today's nugget of wisdom, I wanted to share the cutest story that happened to me the other day.
Keep reading for smiles 👇
My son is 3.5 years old. I recently decided to stop sharing his face on social media publicly (an entire can of worms we can get into another time), but picture the cutest 3.5 year old boy, built like a Cheetoh, with amber red hair down to his waist, big brown eyes, and the sass level of Regina George. That's Bub.
Bub has been talking since he was one (not surprised, his mom has a podcast where she gabs for hours 🙋♀️). And he has a lot to say. If you're a mom to a rambunctious toddler with a large vocabulary, you know exactly what I mean.
As of late, his main conversation topics are anything related to “poo poo” or “pee pee" (I'm as shocked as you), and he loves to throw a good insult at you when you least expect it. This season of parenting is called “nothing can surprise me anymore” because you just honestly never know what you're going to get. 🥲
Regardless, the other day I decide to actually get dressed for the day. No gymwear or mismatched articles partially from my side of the closet and partially from my boyfriend's. I did the makeup, slicked the bun, and even added a pop of gloss for the it-girl effect.
My son comes up to me, and for a split second I thought he was about to lay one on me and instead he looks at me with that red hair falling in his eyes and says, “You look cute, mama.”
* Cue gross snot crying. This was me 👇
Moral of the story? Not all toddlers are monsters. 🙃
Now, I've been getting “dressed for work” every day of the week and I can't help but admit how much more ready I feel to tackle the day ahead. This small little change over the past two weeks has given me an extra confidence boost I didn't even know I needed.
While I was thinking how it has transformed my day even in the small details, I couldn't help but think of a few other things I've focused on in my business that have made the day-to-day work just a little easier and given me the confidence to show up at my fullest ⤵️
CREATING A WORKSPACE I LOVE 🤎
Whether you're working from home, on the go, or in an office, your workspace is everything. It influences your mood, affects your creativity, and will dictate your productivity. Spend time being selective of what you allow in your space and giving yourself room to indulge on making the space what you want. (You're spending hours and hours in this space – of course it should be a place where you feel light and energetic). I've loved adding to my home office over the past 4 years and although it's not entirely complete, I look forward to working in this space every day.
SCHEDULING BUSINESS WORKDAYS 🗓
The busier I've gotten and more I've scaled, the more I realize how crucial it is to schedule business workdays in your daily/weekly/monthly calendar. If you're a service-based business, you spend so much of your time working in the business with clients that you might often leave little time to work on the business. Or by the time you are open to working on your marketing plan or that new website you've been meaning to make, you have no gas left in the tank. Schedule your business work days (on a recurring basis that fits your schedule and business needs), and add them to your calendar. This ensures you'll time block those days and won't schedule any meetings/client appointments. Setting these weekly in my business (every Monday for me) has been an absolute game changer for operating my business.
SHARING MY BUSINESS WITH MY LOVED ONES 💌
I think we can all admit the online space can feel lonely, especially if you're a one-man production. You might feel like you don't often get to talk things through with someone you trust or celebrate milestone wins with people who just get it. But after starting my business from the ground up with my family (and children) by my side, I've realized there is nothing more fulfilling and exciting than sharing your business with your loved ones. Your closest companions (whether friends, family, or lovers) truly know how to love you best and can support you in so many ways. I've been open with my own partner with my business and feel I have a space to confide, celebrate, or ask for support so I can show up in my business best.
